Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio – In a Canadian junior welterweight grudge match, for the WBA “gold” title, Yves Ulysse (18-1, 9 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Steve Claggett (27-6-2, 17 KOs). The scores were 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93.

There were many close rounds, with Claggett applying the pressure and throwing a lot of punches, and Ulysse was landing some very hard shots throughout the contest and showing off the better boxing ability. Ulysse was able to land several telling blows, but Claggett showed off a rock solid chin.

The contest was a rematch of their October 2017 encounter, which saw Ulysse suffer his first career defeat by way of a ten round split decision – which some felt was controversial and others saw as a close fight. After that loss, Ulysse had won three fights in a row.

In the co-feature, Joshua Franco (15-1-1, 7 KOs) won a ten round split decision over Oscar Negrete (18-2-1, 7 KOs). The scores were 98-92 for Negrete, and 96-94 and 97-93 for Franco.

The fight was a rematch of their October 2018 clash, which saw them fight to a ten round split draw.
