Flashy superstar entrances are synonymous with WrestleMania, and this year’s card was no different.
With that in mind, here is a sorted list of all the entrance times for the superstars who competed on the main card at WrestleMania 35.
For the majority of superstars, the way I time entrances is pretty much from the opening note of the superstar’s entrance music to the final note. The exceptions to this would be the wrestlers who received a special intro prior to their music playing, such as the short videos/graphics that were shown prior to the entrance music for Seth Rollins and Triple H. Those extra touches are included as part of the entrance time.
During a superstar’s entrance, WWE sometimes crams in extra things like introductions of commentary teams. Any occurrences like this will be listed in parentheses next to the wrestler’s name.
- 5m 01s: Triple H
- 4m 20s: Charlotte Flair (including the 2m 39s helicopter arrival)
- 3m 56s: Batista (Kumail Nanjiani in audience)
- 3m 54s: Finn Balor
- 2m 38s: Shane McMahon (including when his music was paused twice)
- 2m 37s: Roman Reigns
- 2m 30s: Aleister Black (plug for Snickers)
- 2m 20s: Ronda Rousey
- 2m 15s: Rey Mysterio (International commentary teams)
- 2m 10s: Randy Orton (Spanish & German commentary teams)
- 2m 08s: Sasha Banks & Bayley
- 2m 03s: Kofi Kingston
- 2m 02s: Beth Phoenix & Natalya
- 2m 00s: Bobby Lashley
- 1m 57s: Drew McIntyre
- 1m 43s: The Miz
- 1m 41s: Kurt Angle
- 1m 34s: Daniel Bryan
- 1m 29s: Brock Lesnar
- 1m 29s: AJ Styles
- 1m 28s: Ricochet
- 1m 28s: Samoa Joe (International commentary teams)
- 1m 27s: Becky Lynch
- 1m 20s: Seth Rollins
- 1m 16s: The Bar
- 1m 01s: The Usos
- 0m 53s: Tamina & Nia Jax
- 0m 52s: The IIconics
- 0m 46s: Baron Corbin
- 0m 46s: Rusev
- 0m 36s: Shinsuke Nakamura
These 31 entrance times add up to 61 minutes and 40 seconds, which essentially means you spent over an hour of your time at WrestleMania 35 watching wrestlers walk or drive down a stage and then pose in the ring.
Considering that the Undertaker did not wrestle at this event, it’s not at all surprising that Triple H had the longest entrance time. It’s a little more surprising that Batista’s entrance time was the third longest. For some reason, after the Animal tripped through the ropes and posed on the turnbuckle, he decided to take a lap outside the ring and do it all over again, minus the tripping.
Clocking in at 3m 54s, Finn Balor’s entrance time fell short of his match time by just eight seconds.
The entrances for Rey Mysterio and Samoa Joe were used to introduce the line of international commentary teams. It took a total time of 1m 30s to introduce these commentary teams, which ended up being longer than their actual match time of 1m 00s.
Last year Shinsuke Nakamura had one of the longest entrances at WrestleMania 34, but this year he had the shortest.
Becky Lynch’s relatively short entrance time (1m 27s) also stands out in comparison to her opponents Charlotte Flair (4m 20s) and Ronda Rousey (2m 20s).
These numbers do not include the timing of entrances for superstars who appeared on stage (and walked to the ring, in the case of John Cena) but did not compete in a match. These entrances from performers such as Hulk Hogan, Alexa Bliss, John Cena (including the Babe Ruth video), Lacey Evans, Paul Heyman, D-X, and R-Truth/Carmella combined for a total time of about 8m 13s.
For some context, I timed all wrestler entrances on pay-per-view (PPV) in 2014 and concluded that roughly 13% of all PPV time that year was spent on entrances. For WrestleMania 35, that percentage spiked into the neighborhood of 19% for the 31 listed times.
I also timed the dedicated video packages that aired prior to five major matches of the night. These hype videos air right before superstar entrances, so there is no overlap with the aforementioned entrance times. Here are the approximate times for these five video packages.
- 4m 08s: Triple H vs. Batista
- 4m 07s: Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston
- 3m 23s: The Miz vs. Shane McMahon
- 3m 12s: Rousey vs. Flair vs. Lynch
- 2m 54s: Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
These five times add up to 17 minutes and 44 seconds.
Are you cool with WWE spending close to 80 minutes of your WrestleMania viewing experience on over-the-top entrances and dedicated video packages for a handful of matches? Which of these entrances was your favorite, and which superstars deserved more time?
