A recent graduate of the Contender Series has his first booking.
Heavyweight Yorgan De Castro (5-0), who recently won a contract on the program this past June, will face fellow Octagon newcomer Justin Tafa (3-0) at UFC 243 on Oct. 5. MMA Fighting confirmed the matchup with sources following an initial report by MMA Junkie.
De Castro impressed UFC president Dana White with a first-round leg kick TKO of heavily favored Alton Meeks on the June 18 episode of the Contender Series. He became the first fighter from Cape Verde to be signed to the promotion.
Since turning pro in 2017, Tafa has fought exclusively for Australia’s Xtreme Fighting Championships organization. All of his wins have come by way of knockout.
UFC 243 is scheduled to be headlined by a middleweight championship unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya. A location is still to be determined.
