Frank Warren has stated that Kid Galahad will have to reach a whole new level if he is to win the world title.
The veteran promoter will stage Josh Warrington’s second IBF featherweight crown defence against the Sheffield man on June 15.
Warren revealed on Tuesday that the ‘Leeds Warrior’ will face the former British, Commonwealth and European super-bantamweight champion in a mandatory defence, exclusively live on BT Sport, at the First Direct Arena in his home city.
And the man who promotes Billy Joe Saunders, Carl Frampton and Tyson Fury, among others, has nailed his colours to the mast and said that Dominic Ingle-trained Galahad must do more than ever before to take home the bauble.
“Josh has beaten real good quality top line fighters and done it in style,” said Warren. “After beating Carl Frampton and Lee Selby, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the best in the world.”
Warrington was the underdog heading into his fight against Lee Selby, the then-champion, at Leeds United’s Elland Road Stadium, back in May last year and further cemented his claim for a seat at the division’s top table when he outpointed Carl Frampton in Manchester in December.
“Josh has got this engine that is unbelievable,” Warren added. “He has come through in style and not just nicked fights, he has won them emphatically.
“But one thing’s for sure, Dominic Ingle and Kid Galahad will have to pull out every stop to get over the line. He’s going to have to do something very special and surprise a number of people to beat Josh because he is a very, very special fighter.”
