A trio of Brazilian fighters have been added to the UFC’s return to Rio de Janeiro.
At a press conference in Rio on Thursday, officials announced that a welterweight bout between Warlley Alves and Sergio Moraes, and a lightweight bout between Thiago Moises and Kurt Holobaugh are booked for UFC 237 on May 11.
Alves (12-3) and Moraes (14-4-1) both experienced losses in their most recent outings, with Alves losing via second-round TKO to James Krause at UFC Lincoln, and Moraes dropping a unanimous decision to Anthony Rocco Martin at UFC Wichita. The two UFC veterans are products of the Brazilian edition of The Ultimate Fighter, with Alves winning season three’s middleweight tournament and Moraes competing in the middleweight finals of season one.
Moises (11-3), who hails from Sao Paulo, is a former Legacy Fighting Alliance competitor who earned his UFC contract with a win on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Brazil. In his Octagon debut last November, he lost to Beneil Dariush via unanimous decision.
Holobaugh (17-6) is in his second stint with the UFC after also being signed off of the Contender Series. He is seeking his first win in the promotion after three total tries. His last two fights have seen him finished by Shane Burgos and Raoni Barcelos.
UFC 237 will be headlined by a strawweight title bout between champion Rose Namajunas and challenger Jessica Andrade. The main card airs live on pay-per-view on May 11 and takes place at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
