VIDEO | Coach says Cain Velasquez’ UFC contract is ‘for sale’

Share the joy

“There’s contract negotiations going on that I’m not privileged to know. But I do know that other organizations are interested in buying Cain [Velasquez’s] contract. It’s for sale, I do know that because I was told that from somebody that’s in the know. That they were offered money to buy Cain’s contract but what’s going on, I don’t know.

I do know that Cain has been wanting to fight this whole year, he’s been ready to fight. I know there’s negotiations, I do know that, I do know he wants to fight.

I don’t know [if they’re other MMA organizations or WWE]. I just know that Cain went [to the WWE Performance Institute recently] because he loves WWE. That’s the only purpose I know of.

It has nothing to do with Daniel [Cormier].”

According to former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez’ longtime head coach Javier Mendez, he could be moving on soon.

When talking about the most talented heavyweight fighters of all time, it would be an injustice to not bring up Velasquez. Unfortunately, we could even go as far to say that he could have wound up being the very best there ever was if only his career wasn’t riddled with injuries.

Velasquez’ last fight came at UFC 200 in July 2016 when he TKO’d Travis Browne in just under one round. Since then the former heavyweight kingpin has essentially been nowhere to be seen.

As his longtime teammate at American Kickboxing Academy Josh Thomson stated recently, Velasquez is finally ready to return it’s just a matter of the UFC getting him a fight as their coach reiterated.

In a division like heavyweight that is always interesting when the bigger name fighters are around, it really makes you wonder why the UFC hasn’t been able to find him a fight sooner rather than later.
