The octagon returns to Australia this evening for the promotions UFC 234 pay-per-view event which is now headlined by a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya.
Tonight’s pay-per-view event was expected to be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum. However, “The Reaper” was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury just hours prior to the event.
As a result of Whittaker’s injury, a highly anticipated three-round middleweight affair between former division kingpin Anderson Silva and surging contender Israel Adesanya will now main event UFC 234.
Anderson Silva wil compete for the first time in over a year at tonight’s event in Melbourne. “The Spider” was last seen in action at UFC 208, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Derek Brunson.
Meanwhile, Israel Adesanya has gone a perfect 4-0 since joining the UFC in February of 2018.
“The Last Stylebender” was most recently seen in action at November’s UFC 230 event, where he earned a first-round TKO victory over the aforementioned Derek Brunson.
In the co-main event of the evening, lightweights Marcos Rosa Mariano and Lando Vannata will throw down in hopes of climbing the stacked 155-pound ranks.
