The FOX Sports UFC era began with a heavyweight matchup in Southern Calfornia in 2011 and ended with a heavyweight bout in SoCal in 2018.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski and Walt Harris squared off in the FS1 UFC 232 featured prelim bout on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.
And while the first fight, Junior dos Santos’ victory over Cain Velasquez to win the heavyweight title, ended with a fast knockout, the final bout before the pay-per-view card started went the distance.
In the end, Harris closed the FS1 era with a victory, getting a split-decision nod. Harris got a pair of 29-28 scores to a 30-27 for Arlovski.
Frankly, there wasn’t a ton of note going on in this fight. The bout had its most action in the opening stanza, when both took turns landing flurries of punches.
But the 39-year old Arlovski slowed the tempo and turned it into a grind, as he has in several of his recent bouts, and Harris wasn’t able to find another gear. Still, he landed often enough to sway two judges and had more gas left in the tank as the bout came to an end.
With the victory, Harris is now 12-7 and his won two in a row. Arlovski (27-18, 1 NC) has lost three in a row.
