Cris Cyborg didn’t have as big of a weight advantage over the weekend as many thought she would.
Cyborg weighed 160.5 pounds in her fight-night weight check Saturday night at UFC 232, per a document obtained from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Amanda Nunes was 156 pounds, just 4.5 pounds less.
Nunes, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, ended up beating Cyborg via 51-second knockout to win the UFC women’s featherweight title at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. It was Cyborg’s first loss since 2005. Nunes, 30, has won eight straight and is the first female double champion in UFC history.
In the main event, Jon Jones had only a three-pound advantage over Alexander Gustafsson. Jones beat Gustafsson by third-round TKO to regain the UFC light heavyweight title that he never lost inside the Octagon.
The biggest weight gainers from weigh-ins to fight night were Alexander Volkanovski (14 percent), Montel Jackson (14 percent) and Douglas Silva de Andrade (13.6 percent). Any fighter who comes in more than 10 percent over the contracted weight on fight night can be recommended to move up in weight by CSAC. The commission doctors have yet to make a determination as to whether anyone from UFC 232 will be recommended to move up a division.
Volkanovski beat Chad Mendes via second-round TKO, Jackson defeated Brian Kelleher by first-round submission and Silva de Andrade lost to Petr Yan by second-round corner stoppage TKO.
Michael Chiesa weighed 188 pounds on fight night in his first bout in the UFC moving up from lightweight to welterweight. The former 155-pound fighter actually had a 2.5-pound weight advantage on career welterweight Carlos Condit. Chiesa beat Condit by second-round submission.
Cat Zingano, moving up from bantamweight to featherweight, only weighed 1-pound less than the 6-foot Megan Anderson.
CSAC began releasing fight-night weights over the summer. These percentage numbers represent an improvement over UFC 227, which saw 18 fighters out of 24 gain more than 10 percent more after weigh-ins. At UFC 232, only four out of 26 fighters were more than 10 percent over.
