Well, that wasn’t close.
UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier went into tonight’s (Sat., Nov. 3, 2018) fight against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 with a Brock Lesnar fight looming large were he to emerge victorious. He was never really in any trouble, easily winning the first round after a takedown and smothering top game before following up with a rear naked choke to get the tap in the second round. He successfully defended his title via submission, ensuring a future fight against the current WWE Universal champion is still on track.
“Brock Lesnar,” Cormier shouted during his post-fight interview with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, “when you come, bring that brand new WWE title because I feel like being a WWE champion too. Let’s go, Brock. Bring that belt with you if you come to my house.”
Nothing is official just yet, of course, as nothing has been signed and Lesnar has both WWE business to take care of and he must serve out the remainder of his suspension (it comes up in January). But it’s been clear for some time that UFC wanted to put this fight together, and now that Cormier has vanquished his latest challenger, there is nothing standing in the way of that.
