The Professional Fighters League is bringing its playoffs to the fight capital of the world.
Officials announced Tuesday that the league’s upcoming playoff events will take place over the course of three weeks with shows on Oct. 11, 17, and 31 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. These events will determine who advances to the finals, which are scheduled to take place on Dec. 31 with a location still to be determined.
This marks the PFL’s Las Vegas debut.
Fighters in eight different weight classes are currently jockeying for a spot on one of the three playoff events. With the exception of the women’s lightweight division, which was introduced this year, each division will have eight fighters advance to the playoffs where they will have to win two fights in one evening to book themselves a spot in the tournament finals.
The women’s lightweight roster currently only has eight fighters (as opposed to 12 in the other divisions) so the top four advance to the playoffs and will only need to win one more fight to earn a finals opportunity.
At the New Year’s Eve show, the winners of each tournament will be crowned the 2019 champion in their respective weight class and earn a $1,000,000 prize.
The Oct. 11 and 31 shows will have preliminaries air on ESPN+ with the main card on ESPN2, while the Oct. 17 show will be reversed with preliminaries on ESPN2 and the main card on ESPN+.
There are still three regular season shows that need to play out before playoff seeding is determined, the next on July 11 in Atlantic City, N.J., featuring the welterweights and women’s lightweights.
