Toni Storm defeated Io Shirai in the final of the Mae Young Classic tournament to become the champion of the 2018 edition. The match had several fake finals, with Toni Storm applying the Strong Zero without success. Finishing, Io Shirai erred applying a Moonsault and Storm took advantage to apply again the Strong Zero and take the victory by the count of three.
After the fight, the two fighters embraced as a sign of respect. Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Sara Amato went up to the ring to offer the cup and a bouquet of flowers to the winner. Io Shirai also received a bouquet of flowers for having reached the final of the tournament. There were no statements from the participants.

Toni Storm was on the verge of winning the first edition when he lost in the semifinals to another Japanese, Kairi Sane. On that occasion, Kairi Sane beat Shayna Baszler in the final.
