Tom Farrell has been ruled out of his fight next month.

The former WBA International super-lightweight champion has been out of action since March.

Farrell lost to Philip Bowes in a challenge for the Commonwealth title and had been set to come back on July 19.

But the 29-year-old has been forced to withdraw from his showcase outing on the undercard of the latest instalment of the Ultimate Boxxer tournament, at the Planet Ice Arena in Altrincham, after picking up an injury in training.

“I have been training hard, dieting & loved being back with a focus, but I’ve been training around a knock picked up last week which I can’t shake off,” ‘Fazza’ revealed on social media. “I’m going to have to rest properly for a couple of weeks which will mean I can’t be anywhere near 100 per cent in four weeks’ time.”

Farrell is now likely to be out until after the summer, with his manager Steve Wood planning a card at the Eventim Olympia in Liverpool on September 21 that will feature Joe Kavanagh, who made a successful debut at the same venue earlier this month, and could play host to the return of Isle of Man southpaw Mathew Rennie.

“It’s not ideal, but I need to listen to my body now so that it doesn’t affect me further down the line,” Farrell continued. “[This is] just another bump in the road [and] I can’t wait to be back.”
