Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson will finally square off in a rematch later tonight (Sat., Dec. 29, 2018) at UFC 232 live on pay-per-view from inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.,as the two headline the UFC’s massive end-of-the-year card for the vacant light heavyweight title.
There is a lot of hype surrounding this fight and for good reason. Jones and Gustafsson first met back at UFC 165 over five years ago and produced one of the best title fights in UFC history. Jones ended up winning via unanimous decision, but Gustafsson gave “Bones” the most difficult fight of his career.
On top of their history inside of the cage, Jones’ recent United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) fiasco is adding some extra horsepower to this main event rematch. Gustafsson clearly doesn’t like the choices Jones has made outside of the cage and would love to be the guy to put “Bones” in his place. Jones, on the other hand, is trying to regain all of the momentum he lost from previous failed drug tests and reclaim the throne he never actually lost in competition.
It’s a huge clash of light heavyweight titans that you will not want to miss. But when will the two MMA stars actually take center stage later tonight at UFC 232?
With four other fights taking place on the PPV main card starting at 10:00 p.m. ET, Jones vs. Gustafsson 2 is likely to begin sometime around 12:15 a.m. ET (Sunday).
The opening main card bout between featherweights Chad Mendes and Alexander Volkanovski is a candidate to go all three rounds, Ilir Latifi’s light heavyweight clash with Corey Anderson should either end early or go the distance, and Carlos Condit’s welterweight scrap opposite former lightweight contender Michael Chiesa offers another unpredictable matchup that could produce a finish at any moment in time. You also have the co-main event women’s featherweight title fight between current champion Cris Cyborg and UFC women’s bantamweight titleholder Amanda Nunes. Their fighting styles would suggest that someone is going down within the first few rounds, but nobody would be surprised if the women’s superfight trickles over into the championship frames.
If things run late Mania will be sure to provide an updated start time for tonight’s long-awaited rematch between Jones and Gustafsson.
