There’s a chance WrestleMania 35’s main event won’t be a Triple Threat

Last Monday (Mar. 25), WWE built to their WrestleMania 35 main event with a Beat The Clock Challenge which pitted Raw Women’s champion Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair against members of The Riott Squad. Lynch won, Ronda got mad… but there was nothing attached to the exercise, no stakes for their showdown next Sunday in New Jersey.

It did set up the predictable tag match where the main eventers (now featuring Charlotte as SmackDown Women’s champ) will have to team up against Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan on the ‘go home’ episode of the red show this upcoming Monday. And Raw Creative is fixing their mistake from last week and putting a pretty serious stipulation on the old “CAN THEY GET ALONG!?!?” booking staple… if they can’t, someone could be booted from the ‘Mania match.

Per the official preview for Raw on

“If Rousey, Lynch or Flair betray either of their teammates, they will be removed from the Raw Women’s Title main event of this year’s Show of Shows.”

Odds are, after WWE’s big announcement about their historic match and a press tour which included sending all three to ESPN – we’re not getting a change. But I appreciate the effort to make the time I give them on Monday nights at least feel like it matters.

And who knows? “Betray” is pretty vague, and would seem to imply that acts short of physically attacking one another could trigger removal for the April 7 title match. Refusing to enter the match would probably count. What about if someone is physically unable to receive a tag? Could that give Mr. McMahon an excuse to take The Man out of the match again, cementing her as the unwanted outsider who has to fight her way back in?

As hard as it is to to believe WWE would change up their main event at this late date, it’s almost equally hard to believe they could resist throwing another twist into this already too-twisty tale.

Guess we’ll find out on Monday night from Washington, D.C.
