The Rock lands top billing on Time’s 100 Most Influential People 2019

Share the joy

Dwayne Johnson’s kayfabe character name stuck when he stopped being a full-time performer for WWE, but The Rock has transcended pro wrestling. Johnson’s movie and television career has not only taken him to amazing heights of fame and entertainment industry power, it actually seems to have changed perceptions about the business in which he first rose to fame.

It’s easy to see how Rocky conquering the box office opened doors for Dave Bautista and John Cena. His crossover success may have also paved the way for WWE to land bigger sponsors and more media coverage.

The latest accolade bestowed upon the Great One is a sign of far he’s risen. Johnson not only landed on 2019’s Time 100 Most Influential People, he tops the “Artists” section, and got the cover of the issue containing the list.

WWE, and probably anyone from what he calls “the crazy world of professional wrestling” hoping to follow in his footsteps, remain happy to watch that rise:

And if the brief essay from his friend & co-star Gal Gadot regarding his place on the Time 100 is any indication, The Rock’s definitely used some of pro wrestling & WWE’s mission statement as he’s gone on to conquer other worlds, too:

“He is the true embodiment of the idea that people may forget what you said, people may forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Dwayne always makes sure people feel their best when he is around.”

Congrats, DJ! Thanks for getting a few less people looking down their noses at our favorite pastime.
