The #1 Contender spot for Samoa Joe’s US Title is up for grabs in a Fatal Five Way match on tonight’s Raw! Who should win? Who will win?
The US Title scene has been a bit muddled on Raw lately.
After Rey Mysterio’s injury forced him to hand the championship over to Samoa Joe, Joe has been left without a challenger for the top secondary belt on Monday nights.
To clear up some of the mess, it was announced that there will be a Fatal Five Way match on tonight’s episode of Raw to determine the number one contender for the US Title to face Joe at Stomping Grounds.
Ricochet, Cesaro, Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley and The Miz will all compete tonight for a chance to face the Samoan Submission Machine at the Jun. 23 pay-per-view.
These five men have crossed paths frequently over the past several weeks.
Last week, they all appeared on an episode of Miz TV to set-up the match and also battled in a six-man tag match with Samoa Joe.
Four of the five have also been squaring off quite frequently on our television screens over the last few months.
Ricochet and Cesaro have put on a series of matches that have left audiences wanting more and have been considered some of the best performances on both Raw and SmackDown Live each week. Strowman and Lashley have been involved in a somewhat forgettable program that has seen the two behemoths lock-up in an arm wrestling match and a ho-hum battle in Saudi Arabia at Super ShowDown.
The Miz, on the other hand, has spent the last few weeks recovering from a series of unsuccessful attempts at beating the newest unbeatable superstar in WWE, Shane McMahon.
What will we see tonight? What should we see tonight?
The Superstar that should pick up the Fatal Five Way victory is Ricochet.
Ricochet has spent his time since being called-up from NXT serving as an entertaining highlight reel for fans who seems on the cusp of a breakthrough.
The matches he has put on with Cesaro, of late, have showcased that Ricochet is more than capable of showing a high work-rate as well as possessing the in-ring skills that a champion should.
If Ricochet is overlooked in this spot, it adds even more fuel to the fire that Vince McMahon mismanages the NXT call-ups and that Triple H’s talent would be better served staying at Full Sail.
Ricochet deserves the chance to battle for a singles title and a run with Samoa Joe would be guaranteed to produce more than a few ‘wow’ moments.
My fear is that WWE will most likely go the obvious way.
The Miz should win this match tonight. All of the signs are there.
- He is an established name that can generate some buzz.
- He is a proven talent that fans would buy as a legitimate threat to Joe’s title.
- He is not currently involved in any storyline, like the other four competitors are.
That final point is the biggest.
Ricochet and Cesaro can put on another high-quality match at Stomping Grounds. Strowman and Lashley can run into each other for 10 more minutes on the pay-per-view (or the pre-show, if we’re lucky.)
The Miz needs something to do. Having him challenge Samoa Joe for the US Title seems like the easiest solution, which is what WWE Creative has been choosing more often than not lately.
Ricochet should get his chance to shine on the main roster, but it will be The A-Lister that sees his hand raised at the end of the night.
