Back in May, Carlos Takam was scheduled to be the first heavyweight for Oleksandr Usyk, who is moving up in weight after unifying the WBO, IBF, WBA, WBC cruiserweight titles in 2018.

Usyk was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an injury during training camp. The contest may not get pushed back to a date in September, according to Takam.

“I am going to fight Usyk again in September,”  Takam told Express Sport. “But I still don’t know whether that’s going to be in Maryland or the UK or somewhere else.”

But Takam says that he might take a stay busy fight on July 20th, as part of the Dillian Whyte vs. Oscar Rivas undercard at The O2 in London.

“Why not?” Takam said. “I’m not going to wait, I think I’m going to have one more before the fight with Usyk in September,” he added. “I can take everybody, I don’t care. I am ready for anyone.”

Recently the WBO made Usyk the mandatory challenger to the heavyweight crown – a decision which caught some people by surprise, including Takam.

Now Usyk is the mandatory challenger to the heavyweight rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz, which takes place in the fall.

“That is a big mistake, I heard that he’s the mandatory for the WBO and I was very surprised,” Takam said.

“Maybe because he hasn’t fought in the heavyweight division, we’re all confused. I wish that he recovers well because I am waiting for him for that match and I know I’m going to win it. I’m going to knock him out. He’s a very fast guy because he’s not from this division, he’s a good boxer and I respect that but he’s never had a punch from a heavyweight guy, that’s what I say. Usyk, I’m waiting for you in September!”
