Arlington, Texas – Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO’) came up short in his quest to dethrone IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence. People wondered why Mikey would take the fight outside of a massive payday but Garcia insisted he saw something.

Whatever he saw, it didn’t help as Spence was the bigger and better fighter.

Promoter Richard Schaefer of Ringstar Sports feels that Mikey’s stock should definitely not take a hit after his defeat.

“Mikey showed unbelievable balls,” Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

“In all my fights, I’ve never seen anything like that. He really came to fight, a lot of pride and a lot of balls. He was opening up and fighting til the last second. He couldn’t pull it off. If you have balls like that, you have nothing to prove.”

The logical move for one of boxing’s pound for pound’s best according to Schaefer is to move back down to the weight classes he had success in and dominate there.

“Mikey has nothing to be ashamed off,” stated Schaefer. “He’ll probably move to 140. He jumped two weight classes and fought the most avoided fighter at 147. Sometimes, when you reach for the stars, sometimes you catch them and sometimes you don’t. Mikey Garcia dared to be great but he just came up short.“

As for Spence (25-0, 21 KO’s) who was seen as avoided by many in his weight class, the financial success of the fight this past Saturday should change such Schaefer feels

“Do they want to get there with Errol,” questioned Schaefer. “Probably not, to be honest, probably not. But at the same time, when you get 47,500, its fantastic crowd in here if you get 50,000 in here, Errol Spence means money, he’s an attraction and a pay-per-view fighter. Maybe that will get fighters to want to fight him now.”

Manny Pacquiao was ringside and is rumored to possible being an opponent for Spence. However Schaefer feels Pacquiao was hesitant in his response to a possible fight.

“I don’t know. It wasn’t a clear yes.”
