Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight striking sensation, Israel Adesanya, is so good at combat sports, he was able to sellout Robert Whittaker’s fights before he even signed with the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
Admittedly, selling out a fight card that you’re not even competing on is impressive, which is why “The Reaper” sent what is surely a heartfelt “thank you,” but I have a sneaking suspicion the “Last Stylebender” may have been posturing.
“Thank you,” Whittaker told Submission Radio regarding Adesanya’s claim. “Truth be told, almost like every time I’ve [fought] on an Australian card, it’s sold out, before he was on the scene. The super fight is on Sunday because I’m there.”
Whittaker is defending his middleweight strap against top division contender, Kelvin Gastelum, in this weekend’s UFC 234 pay-per-view (PPV) main event in Melbourne. In the UFC 234 co-headliner, Adesanya take on former 185-pound champion, Anderson Silva.
That means a win for both “The Reaper” and “The Last Stylebender” could leave them facing off inside the Octagon later this year. Or whenever the promotion makes its return “Down Under,” since both fighters seem to be so good at Aussie sellouts.
