Legendary Fighter Steps Into the Cage
Fedor Emelianenko is considered one of the best heavyweight fighters of all time. He dominated his division for 10 years. Between 2000 and 2010, he fought 32 times while only losing once, which was due to doctor stoppage from a cut that caused blood to run into his eye. He has a total of 24 first round wins, many of which were against some of the most talented heavyweights in the game.

This past weekend at Bellator 208, Fedor faced Chael Sonnen in the Semi-Finals of their Heavyweight Grand Prix. Chael isn’t a fighter that can be ignored either, he was a NCAA Division I wrestler, also with a history in Greco-Roman wrestling. Chael has been fighting a long time and has also fought and nearly beat some of the top fighters in different weight divisions. Fedor ended the fight with 14 seconds left in the first round with a flurry of strikes from top half guard.
Throughout the short fight, Fedor’s boxing kept him dominating on the feet, which led to Sonnen attempting a few takedowns. Most of his attempts were stuffed, but did manage to land a few. With a mixture of Fedor’s takedown defense and heavy ground and pound, it didn’t take long for the ref to step in and end the fight.

With this past weekend’s win, Fedor moves to the Finals of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix. If he wins this one, he will be crowned Bellator’s Heavyweight Champ. In his next bout, he will have to face Ryan Bader, a BJJ black belt, UFC Vet, and current Bellator Light-Heavyweight Champion. At this time in Fedor’s career, Bader is going to be quite the challenge.
January 26th 2019 is the date set for the Finale. This could possibly be Bellators largest event with these two big names and will certainly be an event to watch.
