She’s been a babyface for a long time, and her current run with bestie Bayley as The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection has her firmly in the role of fan favorite. But with another face team in Beth Phoenix & Natalya among those competing for the Women’s Tag Team championship at WrestleMania 35, Sasha Banks is getting to show flashes of the attitude which fueled her heel character in NXT. And of course, that edge has never disappeared from The Boss’ social media and interview game.
Our latest reminder that that swagger is never buried too deep beneath the smiley surface came at the beginning of a brief interview with Spain’s Vicente Beltrán.
Beltrán: I would like to start with what happened at the Royal Rumble when you faced, one-on-one, Ronda Rousey. Was it a dream match for you?
Banks: [Pause] No. [Pause, laugh] It was a dream match for her though. She said it. [Pause]
Now, Sasha means no disrespect. After being publicly dubious at the start of Rousey’s WWE career, she’s put over the Raw Women’s champ in interviews for a while now. But as the rest of her brief chat with Beltrán shows, Banks’ dream matches are with people like Lita and Trish Stratus, not somebody who just started training in pro graps a couple years ago. Those folks aspire to work with her, not the other way around.
And she’s not afraid to make that very clear to people who don’t understand that.
