Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz

Earlier this week was the three-year anniversary of the first fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz which took place at UFC 196 in March of 2016.

Diaz, who took the pairs initial fight on short-notice, went on to submit McGregor with a rear-naked choke in Round Two at the event.

The loss marked McGregor’s first under the UFC banner and the third setback of his professional career overall.

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz would meet against five months later in the main event of UFC 202.

Like their first contest, the rematch took place inside the promotions welterweight division of 170lbs.

The Diaz vs. McGregor rematch was nothing short of spectacular. McGregor was able to get the better of Diaz in the early rounds, dropping the “Stockton Slugger” on multiple occasions.

However, when McGregor started to slow down in the later rounds, the tide would turn in favor of Diaz who started to land a plethora of punches on the Irish superstar.

The highly anticipated rematch would go all full five rounds and after twenty-five minutes of action the judges scored the bout a majority decision victory for Conor McGregor.

With that said, Nate Diaz firmly believes he is up 2-0 in his series with “Mystic Mac”.

The 33-year-old, Diaz, has not stepped foot inside the octagon since that loss to McGregor in August of 2016.

Nate was slated to fight Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 this past November, but that fight ultimately fell apart for a number of reasons.

With talk of the UFC 196 anniversary flooding twitter, Conor McGregor decided to reflect on the loss and rematch in the following posts.

Conor McGregor’s comments did not go unnoticed by Diaz, as Nate fired back with the following statement directed at the Irishman.

With talk of a potential Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor matchup seemingly falling through in recent days, the door may have just opened for a McGregor vs. Diaz trilogy. UFC 239 perhaps?
