Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ready to return at 41-years-old?
Mayweather says a rematch of his 2015 mega-bout with Manny Pacquiao will take place before the year is.
Mayweather took to his Instagram account on Saturday, saying, “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year another 9 figure pay day on the way.”
Mayweather has been out of the ring since knockout UFC superstar Conor McGregor in August 2017. He announced his retirement afterwards – and that was Mayweather’s first fight in two years.
“We gonna take the belt. We gonna get the payday. And I don’t want no shoulder excuses,” Mayweather said in a video obtained by ESPN from a Pacquiao adviser.
Mayweather’sInstagram post included a video where he’s talking with Pacquiao at a music festival in Tokyo, but there is no word on what the two boxers were discussing.
In the video, Mayweather and Pacquiao surrounded by fans at a nightclub. Mayweather appears to lean toward his right and say, “I’m taking the belt in December.”
Pacquiao responds, “I have the belt,” and Mayweather tells him, “I’m taking it from you. I’m going to take it from you like I did before.”
Pacquiao, 39-years-old, is planning to return to the ring in December.
Both boxers are promotional free agents – making the second fight much easier to make than the first, which took at least six years to put together.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision win over Pacquiao in their first fight. After the bout, Pacquiao claimed that his performance was flat due to an injury to a right shoulder – which he later had surgery on.
The pay-per-view bout set massive records, include for PPV buys with 4.6 million and over half a billion in revenue.
Pacquiao is riding a hot streak at the moment. He fought back in July, when he capture the WBA “regular” welterweight title with a seventh round knockout of Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia. It was the first knockout win for Pacquiao since 2009. After the fight, he called out Mayweather.
