Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi is fully expecting a potential rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao to be a big hit with casual and hardcore fans of the sport.

The possibility of a rematch broke last weekend, when both boxers posted a video to social media – which showed them speaking to each other at a concert event in Tokyo.

Mayweather would later announce that he was returning to the sport, for a rematch with Pacquiao.

Mayweather would later state to TMZ that he might take a tuneup before a rematch takes place.

“I know everybody heard about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but before the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch I will be back in Tokyo for a huge boxing event. Stay tuned,” Mayweather said.

In the first bout, which took place in May of 2015, Mayweather won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Afterwards, Pacquiao revealed that he entered the fight with a shoulder injury and further injured himself in the fight.

Their contest became the most financially successful boxing event in history, with over half a billion in revenue and 4.6 million pay-per-view buys.

Not everyone is happy with the news. Numerous fans have voiced their displease with the idea of a second fight, and plan to ignore the fight.

Malignaggi doubts that will happen. He firmly believes most critics of the contest will tune-in and watch the contest.

“It’s going to sell. It’s a fight that’s going to sell. Yeah its going to sell. Casuals [fans] are going to buy everything. Even boxing fans…. ‘oh, we dont want to see that fight?’ Bullsh*t,” Malignaggi told

“I can tell you a lot of fights I’d rather watch, but if they make the fight…. what, I’m not going to watch it? I’ll probably work it. What am I going to do, you know.”
