Tom Loeffler, promoter for former unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs), says his boxer is ready and willing to fight Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) in a trilogy bout.

The first meeting took place in September 2017, and ended in a controversial twelve round split draw at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The rematch took place at the same venue last month, and this time around Canelo walked away with a very close twelve round majority decision to capture the WBC, WBA middleweight world titles.

Golovkin is eager to get in the ring with Canelo for a third time.

After their second meeting, both boxers – who were signed to HBO – became network free agents.

Canelo has since signed a five year, 11 fight deal with streaming service DAZN.

Golovkin still remains on the market, while evaluating his options for a planned return in the first quarter of 2019.

Because there is still an ongoing debate over which boxer deserved to win the rematch, Loeffler feels strongly that Canelo needs a trilogy fight in order to set the record straight with the fans who are questioning the outcome.

“Triple G is always up to fight Canelo. We feel that he beat him twice. There is no reason why he wouldn’t beat him a third time. We feel that Canelo needs Triple G more than Triple G needs Canelo, because Canelo still needs to prove to the fans that he beat him fair and square, not just on the judges’ scorecards,” Loeffler told ESPN Deportes.

“It was a great fight the first time, it was a better fight the second time and I think the third fight might even be the best fight. We’ll see, whatever we can work out. I’ve been in regular contact with [Canelo’s promoter] Golden Boy. We’ll see if we can work out a third fight.”
