The Japanese selection for the World Championships in Tokyo was announced today after the All Japan Championships. In a press conference the names are made public and double World Champion Hashimoto Soichi was not selected for the individual World Championships. Shohei Ono defeated Hashimoto in the final for men U73kg. Also Masashi Ebinuma was left out of the selection for the worlds.

The categories U60kg and U66kg have two participants and form the maximum amount number of nine athletes per gender. Harasawa Hisayoshi is the most likely heavyweight for the World Championships as he won this weekend’s heavyweight title.

-60kg NAGAYAMA, Ryuju

-66kg MARUYAMA, Joshiro

-66kg ABE, Hifumi

-73kg ONO, Shohei

-81kg FUJIWARA, Sotaro

-90kg MUKAI, Shoichiro

-100kg WOLF, Aaron

For the Team Competition are added:

-73 HASHIMOTO, Soichi

-90 NAGASAWA, Kenta

The heavyweight division +100kg will be decided after the All Japan Open Championships scheduled at 29 April.

Women

Paris winner Ai Shishime and Ami Kondo were also left out of the draft selection, but can still be added. 

-48kg TONAKI, Funa

-52kg ABE, Uta

-57kg YOSHIDA, Tsukasa

-63kg TASHIRO, Miku

-70kg ARAI, Chizuru

-78kg HAMADA, Shori

The division +78kg and additional two members for the Women’s team are decided after the All Japan Open Championships Women that will be held at 21 April.

The World Mixed team title was captured by the team of Japan and they prolonged last year’s title from Budapest here in Baku. Witnessed by Russia Federation President Vladimir Putin Russia and a united team of North and South Korea took bronze. France lost the final to Japan by 4-1. Read more

What a fantastic World Championships final U73kg, not just on paper as world number one Soichi Hashimoto and An Changrim (7) of Korea went for their World Championships final. The first final for An, with Hashimoto perhaps as favourite but An was the man in form. Read more
