Former world champion Juan Francisco ‘Gallo’ Estrada has been ruled out by promoters to fight on Saturday, November 24, at the Oasis Arena in Cancun, Quintana Roo, because they have not reached an agreement with the popular Sonoran boxer.

The Sonoran fighter himself had stated that he will not return until 2019, which could lead him directly to the rematch with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, which is likely to happen in February or March – if the Thai puncher does not move forward with a unification with Jerwin Ancajas.

During the World Boxing Council convention from this past October in Ukraine, it was announced that Rungvisai was going to fight that month with Iran Diaz and then he would make one more defense of the WBC super flyweight title in December, while Estrada was going to make a fight in November on Mexican soil – before they face each other in the first quarter of 2019.

With the cancellation of Estrada’s fight, we will have to wait and see if Sor Rungvisai will make a direct defense against Estrada in early 2019 or will he pursue other plans – since promoter Bob Arum recently revealed that he’s held discussions with Tom Loeffler to make unification between Ancajas, holder of the International Boxing Federation belt, and Sor Rungvisai.

With Estrada ruled out for the show, it will now be Jalisco’s Carlos ‘Chuko’ Diaz who will face Jesus Antonio ‘Ricky’ Perez in a fight agreed upon for 10 rounds in the lightweight division –  while on the undercard Lupita Martinez will defend the World Boxing Council’s super flyweight belt against former world champion Yulihan Luna.

‘Chuko’ comes back after losing for the first time in his career after being knocked out by Jose Zepeda in June, in an exciting battle that ended in five rounds. Zepeda had been dropped hard in the fourth, before surviving to stop Diaz a round later.
