LONDON super-middleweight John Ryder ground Russia’s Andrey Sirotkin to a halt inside seven rounds to win a final eliminator for the WBA world title at the Copper Box in Stratford on Saturday.
Ryder weathered tricky early rounds and a nasty cut over his left eye to make sure of his victory and, eventually, guarantee himself a shot at a world title.
“On that performance I don’t win a world title,” Ryder admitted. “But styles make fights and I believe I can beat the best on my day.
“I’m one step away now.”
Ted Cheeseman came through a stirring British super-welterweight title fight. He put Asinia Byfield down and they both tore into one another in thrilling exchanges. But overall it was Cheeseman who dominated, winning the Lonsdale belt 117-110 and 117-111 twice.
Jordan Gill boxed excellently to tear the Commonwealth featherweight title away from Ryan Doyle. He had the power to drop Doyle and in the seventh round hammered him with hooks to stop him on the ropes with a ferocious combination of punches.
Cruiserweight Isaac Chamberlain dropped Luke Watkins in the 10th and last round win a close 95-94 decision.
