Dmitriy Salita, the co-promoter for unbeaten heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller, believes a bout with Tyson Fury can become a mega-event.
This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Miller was ringside when Fury made his debut in the city – and he knocked out Tom Schwarz in two one-sided rounds.
Afterwards, Miller was named as a potential fall opponent for Fury – who is scheduled to fight again in September or October.
Miller was scheduled to fight on June 1, against then world champion Anthony Joshua.
He was pulled from the fight after coming positive for performance enhancing drugs in three separate drug tests. Miller was later replaced by Andy Ruiz, who pulled off a major upset when he stopped Joshua in seven rounds to capture the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA world titles.
Miller is under a suspension that expires in the coming months.
Salita likes the idea of the fight, but says there has yet to be serious conversations on the matter.
Salita told SunSport: “Bob was my first promoter and we have a very good relationship. Arum met with Jarrell the week of the Fury fight. He told me that Jarrell has a great personality and real star potential but no fight dates with any fighter were discussed.
“It would be a fantastic fight and an exciting promotion. I think that at some point in the future it is realistic that it can be a mega event – it is great to see so much fan interest in this fight. The focus is on taking the right steps to move forward in a positive way. We are working and exploring all possibilities on getting Jarrell back in the ring.”
Miller is fully on board with facing Fury.
Miller said: “My suspension is up in September and I think October would be a great date. If I got the shout, I’d take it straight away. I’ve had conversations with Bob Arum already.”
