Jan Blachowicz not ruling out Thiago Santos defeating Jon Jones: ‘I believe in him’

Jan Blachowicz is a man who clearly doesn’t hold any resentment towards fighters who have claimed victory over him.

Thiago Santos is a heavy underdog as he gears up to challenge Jon Jones for his light-heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 239 in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The Brazilian defeated Blachowicz in the third-round of their UFC Prague main event clash back in February, a victory that paved his way to a title shot.

Although many believe that Jones will comfortably defeat “Marreta” on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena, Blachowicz isn’t ruling out the chances of an upset.

“I don’t know; we’ll see [if Santos can beat Jones],” Blachowicz told MMA Fighting.

“This is a crazy sport, so anything can happen. But I believe in him and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for Thiago. He’s got a really weird fighting style. You never know what he’s going to do. Maybe he’ll catch Jon with something and knock him out, we’ll see. I believe in him.”

Although he does believe Santos has what it takes to score an upset win, he underlined his high regard for Jones—a man who Dana White considers the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

“Jones is one of the best in the world, not only in the division, but in the entire sport. It’s going to be a really hard night for Thiago, but I believe in him that he could make it happen.”
