UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was suspended nine months by the NSAC for his post-fight actions at UFC 229 this past October in Las Vegas.

Following his fourth round submission victory over bitter rival Conor McGregor, ‘The Eagle” proceeded to leap out of the octagon and attack the Irishman’s teammate Dillon Danis.

Khabib’s actions sparked brawls to ensue both inside and outside of the octagon, which culminated in two of the Russians teammates attacking Conor McGregor from behind.

While many fans and fighters scolded Khabib Nurmagomedov for his post-fight antics at UFC 229, fellow lightweight fighter James Vick believes that “The Eagle” was justified in his actions.

“What do you expect?” James Vick told MMA Fighting regarding Nurmagomedov snapping following the UFC 229 main event. “I mean, he talked about the dude’s family, his father. I mean, of course some people can’t just turn that off after the fight. So you’ve got to understand the individual you’re dealing with. Sometimes people are gonna do what they do and go crazy like that.”

James Vick continued and revealed that he did not agree with the punishment handed down on the UFC lightweight champion by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

“I mean, I don’t really think that he should get in major trouble for that,” Vick stated. “I mean, no one got hurt. Let’s be realistic. They’re like, ‘Oh, well, this could have happened. Well, it didn’t, though. No one really got hurt and nothing came of it.”

James Vick went on to add that like Daniel Cormier, he too has a lot of respect for Khabib Nurmagomedov for paying the fines of his teammates involved in the UFC 229 brawl.

“I respect Khabib for sticking up for his boys like that,” Vick said. “I 100% respect him.”
