The World Boxing Organization has ordered a mandatory fight for their super featherweight world title.
Both Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions have been given 30 days to reach an agreement for a mandatory fight between champion Jamel Herring and mandatory challenger Lamont Roach.
If the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, the WBO will order a purse bid pursuant to their Regulations of World Championship Contests. The minimum acceptable bid is $150,000. Any of the parties involved may request a purse bid procedure at any time during the negotiation process.
Herring (20-2, 10 KOs) captured the world title last month with a twelve round decision over Masayuki Ito of Japan. It was Herring’s fourth win in a row since losing a decision to Ladarius Miller in 2017.
Roach (19-0-1, 7 KOs) was also in action last month, when he won a ten round unanimous decision over veteran Jonathan Oquendo.
It will be interesting to see where the contest ends up, if they end up going to a purse bid. Herring is promoted by Top Rank, who have an exclusive content deal with ESPN. And Roach is handled by Golden Boy Promotions, who have a content deal with streaming service DAZN.
