A middleweight showdown between Jack Hermansson and Jared Cannonier is being targeted as the main event for the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sept. 28.
Multiple sources confirmed verbal agreements are in place for the contest when speaking to MMA Fighting on Wednesday, although no contracts have been signed at this time. Cannonier’s manager Malki Kawa initially announced the fight via Twitter.
If the fight is made official, Hermansson will get his wish after previously requesting to fight on the card in Denmark so he could fight close to his native Sweden.
Hermansson is currently riding one of the most impressive win streaks in the middleweight division with four straight victories, including a unanimous decision over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in his last bout as well as a submission win against David Branch earlier this year.
Hermansson is 6-1 overall in his past seven fights with his only loss coming to current light heavyweight title contender Thiago Santos back in 2017.
Meanwhile, Cannonier has been making waves ever since deciding to move to 185 pounds after previous fights at both heavyweight and light heavyweight in the UFC.
Cannonier earned a TKO victory in his most recent fight against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva with another TKO earned against David Branch in his debut in the division.
It’s expected that Hermansson vs. Cannonier will headline the UFC card in Copenhagen with more fights to be added in the coming weeks.
