NORFOLK, Va. — Ali Wahab earned a 9-0 major decision at heavyweight to secure the team win for ODU (7-5, 4-2 MAC) as they defeated Duke (2-4, 0-1 ACC) by a 24-17 score on Alumni Day. The Monarchs notched their second-straight team victory on Sunday.

To open the dual, Duke forfeited back-to-back weights at 125 and 133 pounds, which made the score 12-0 in favor of ODU. No. 10 Sa’Derian Perry took the mat first for ODU, where he downed Josh Finesilver by an 8-3 decision. After the 141-pound bout, ODU led 15-0.

At 149, Kevin Budock dropped an 8-2 decision to two-time NCAA Qualifier and No. 6 ranked Mitch Finesilver.

No. 6 Larry Early collected five team points for ODU with his 21-5 technical fall over Ben Anderson. This was Early’s sixth tech. fall of the season.

The Blue Devils collected four-straight wins at 165, 174, 184 and 197 to edge within three team points of ODU. At 165 pounds, Shane Jones fell to two-time NCAA Qualifier Zach Finesilver.

Highlighting the afternoon was the 285-pound matchup, where Wahab earned four takedowns and an escape to win individually and propel ODU to the team victory over ACC foe, Duke.
