Frank Warren, the lead promoter for heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, is hunting for an American opponent for his boxer’s planned return at the end of the year.

Fury made his Las Vegas debut last  month, when he knocked out Tom Schwarz of Germany in two easy rounds at the MGM Grand. It was also the first bout for Fury as part of his co-promotional deal with Top Rank and ESPN.

Now there are plans for him to once again fight in the United States on a date in September or October.

To further Fury’s name and image on American soil, Warren wants to secure an actual opponent who resides in the country.

The picking are slim, with Jarrell Miller already being mentioned as a potential option. Miller is still suspended for failing three drug tests a few months ago, but that suspension is going to be up in September.

“For Tyson Fury’s next fight, we’re still exploring dates at Madison Square Garden in New York between September and October,” Warren told Talk Sport.

“However, it’s too early to make a decision on who he will face. I mentioned the possibility of it being Jarrell Miller in my last column and we do want it to be an American he faces next; I think it’s important that he fights someone from the States.

“A Brit beating a German in Las Vegas is one thing, but we are looking for an American to face him to build Tyson’s profile ever higher in the US. Beyond Deontay Wilder – who is tied up with Luis Ortiz – there’s not the longest list to choose from. We’re going to start thinking about that shortly and when we announce it there will be a press conference over here in the UK as well as the States.”
