MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill – Making his debut in the United States, heavyweight Olympian Filip Hrgovic (8-0, 6 KOs), who captured a bronze medal in the 2016 games, blew away Gregory Corbin (15-2, 9 KOs) in one round.

Corbin is coming off an eight round disqualification loss to former IBF world champion Charles Martin.

Hrgovic, who is being fast tracked to a world title shot, won a dominant eight right unanimous decision over Kevin Johnson in December 2018.

Hrgovic was very pleased with his United States debut and looks forward to bigger opportunities in the country.

“Greg Corbin is a really good fighter. Thank you to him for taking on this challenge. It is an honor for me to box in this great country and arena. Thank you to all the fans who came out here. You didn’t have time to see the best Hrgovic. I look forward to big fights, strong opponents and to give the U.S. really good fights,” Hrgovic said.

The fight barely got going before Hrgovic landed a big right hand to the side of the head, where Corbin fell down to the mat. Corbin was dipping down with his head unprotected, and he was caught by a chopping shot that Hrgovic timed.

Corbin made it up at the count of eight and seemed to be confused and unsteady on his legs, which led to the referee waving off the contest.

Eddie Hearn, the co-promoter of Hrgovic, said he is willing to match his boxer against Olympic silver medal winner Joe Joyce in July. Joyce is scheduled to fight on July 13th at the O2 Arena in London, and he doesn’t have a finalized opponent.

And Hrgovic has no problem with that contest, if Hearn presents the fight.

“I told Eddie Hearn I will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime in the heavyweight division,” Hrgovic said.
