Last Saturday night, Oscar De La Hoya promoted his first-ever MMA event under the Golden Boy MMA banner. In the weeks leading up to this MMA card, which was headlined by a trilogy fight between UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, there was plenty of reason to believe it was a one-off for De La Hoya. Yet according to Fernie Garcia, who fought on the undercard of the event, this is not the case.

“I have heard that they are [going to do more MMA],” Garcia told BJPENN.com of Golden Boy MMA. “I have heard that the plan was for two events. So they are going to have two events. From what I know, they are going to have another event for sure.”

Garcia, a Fortis MMA prospect, improved to 5-0 with a first-round submission of Joe Roye on the Golden Boy MMA undercard. He said that this victory impressed enough that the Oscar De La Hoya led promotion is quite interested in retaining his services for their next event.

“Honestly, I would love to get on that next Golden Boy card which I am pretty sure I would,” he said. “Golden Boy was very impressed. They promised they would have me back on their next show, but no contract or anything yet.”

When this second Golden Boy MMA card might happen is still up in the air. Whatever the case, Garcia believes the promotion is definitely cut out for the MMA business, and was pleasantly surprised by how the event went.

“It was Golden Boy’s first MMA event and I honestly thought they didn’t know how MMA works and it was going to be sloppy. It went so smooth,” Garcia said. “Top level. I have fought for local organizations, but my teammate Steven Peterson, from the UFC, he came in and cornered me and he was very impressed too. He was like ‘this is a top-level organization.’ We got treated really well. It was just really awesome. Very organized. Backstage, the weigh-ins… everything was on point. Everything was a surreal experience. It was strictly on point.”

Do you think Golden Boy MMA will return to our screens with a second event?
