Duran: Mayweather Should Rematch Canelo – I Bet Canelo Wins!

Hall of Fame boxing legend Roberto Duran is not in favor of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather, 41-years-old, won a twelve round decision over Pacquiao in 2015 – in what was the richest fight in boxing’s history.

Now Mayweather is discussing the idea of a multi-fight comeback, and he wants to make a rematch with his career rival, who recently captured the WBA “regular” welterweight title with a one-sided knockout of Lucas Matthysse.

But Duran has another idea.

He would rather see Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) grant a rematch to current WBC, WBA middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs).

Mayweather handed Canelo his only career defeat in a one-sided twelve round fight back in 2013, which took place at a catch-weight of 152-pounds.

Duran believes the time has come – if Mayweather is actually going to fight again – for a rematch of that contest.

He views Canelo, at this point, being a more of a lucrative fight for Mayweather.

Canelo also brings a much bigger risk than Pacquiao, who himself is nearly 40-years-old.

“I would like to see Canelo get the rematch with Mayweather, and I bet you that Canelo wins – because remember that [Mayweather] does not like to be beaten down. You try to beat him down and he runs around holding his [balls]. That’s a fight that I would like to see him come back for, because Mayweather is going to return for a fight with Pacquiao and that is not a fight,” Duran told ESPN Deportes.

“He should fight with [Canelo] for two reasons. He beat him and who are the ones who fill the Las Vegas hotels? The Mexicans do, not the gringos. The Mexicans are the ones who fill the hotels because they are not only going to see a fight, they are going to see a show, and the Mexicans are going to have fun, the American is calmer. I have studied everything.”
