Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York – WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder made sure his 40th knockout — and his 20th first-round knockout — would be one for the ages as a titanic right hand pulverized Breazeale, the WBC mandatory challenger, and ended the fight 136 seconds after it began once referee Harvey Dock completed his 10 count.

The monstrous blow rendered moot the raw numbers that favored Wilder (9-2 overall, 30 jabs, 6-2 power) and the percentage gaps that mostly favored him (26%-20% overall and 21%-0% jabs, but 40%-29% power for Breazeale).

Wilder recorded his ninth successful title defense with his eighth KO while also laying down an emphatic optic gauntlet to Anthony Joshua, who will fight Andy Ruiz Jr. June 1.
