The single leg takedown is an old school wrestling technique that is one of the most commonly employed moves from standing in Jiu Jitsu. The biggest issue with the single leg takedown when used in grappling is the head is usually exposed or can be forced to be so. This makes a lot of attacks like guillotines useful as a defense.

The guillotine, however, can easily be lost if the attacker is strong or willfully forces the defender to the ground. The guillotine is also less effective as a submission when compared to other submissions that attack the neck. One submission the works really as a defense to a single leg is the anaconda choke.
