During tonight’s Money In The Bank show, the WWE announced that Mick Foley will be unveiling a brand new title on Raw tomorrow night.
Now, there are a lot of possibilities for what this might be. It could be no title at all and instead be a philanthropic move of the style that Stephanie McMahon is usually involved in. It could be a wildcard title – please don’t be a wildcard title – or it could be a legends title for The Undertaker and Goldberg to compete for in [Country redacted] next month.
Saudi Arabia. It’s in Saudi Arabia.
Can I dream for a moment though? WWE are a lot of things, but one thing they have always been is at the forefront of digital advancement. They know how to use digital media and they know how to publicize; something easy to see when you look at the reaction to AEW’s Double or Nothing costing an average pay per view price in a network special world. What if we’re about to see is the return of the WWE Hardcore Championship.
Specifically, a 24/7 Hardcore Championship, where we could see lesser spotted figures from all different brands, such as Adam Cole vs Buddy Murphy, fighting it out in an airport baggage claim. I mean, tell me you don’t want to see that.
Hardcore “matches” could do wonders on YouTube and on Twitter and Crash Holly’s whole 24/7 run is one of the biggest highlight reels of my childhood. Also, it’s Mick Foley; if it’s not hardcore then what is he even doing there?
This could of course also just be another move towards better ratings for WWE, offering the promise of something new and exciting if we tune in to Raw tomorrow. The more I consider the chance of a Wild Card Title the more worried I become but, just for a moment, let’s all dream. If WWE don’t give us a 24/7 hardcore title soon, maybe someone else will?
