WBC 160-pound interim champion Jermall Charlo wants so badly to prove he’s the division’s best that he would fully embrace WBA/WBC counterpart Canelo Alvarez as the “B, C or D” side in the promotion, “The Hit Man” told a group of reporters following a Wednesday evening open workout at The Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York.
“You know I would,” accept the B-side, said Charlo. “I don’t give a s*** about A, B, C or D. They could put me under the ring and I’ll come out that mother*******. I don’t care. I don’t care. I don’t care…I consider myself one of the best in the world. I’m ready bro.”
Jermall Charlo (27-0, 21 KOs) has claimed that Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs) among others out-right fear him as he chases his first defense, fourth straight stoppage and 20th knockout in his past 22 fights against Russian southpaw Matt Korobov (28-1, 14 KOs) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn as Premier Boxing Champions returns to FOX (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT).
In Saturday’s co-main event, Jermall’s twin “The Iron Man” Jermell Charlo (31-0, 15 KOs) pursues his fourth defense and fifth knockout in six fights against Tony Harrison (27-2, 21 KOs).
The 28-year-old Alvarez dethroned Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) as WBA/WBC middleweight champion by majority decision in September’s rematch of their draw in September 2017, and, on Saturday, earned his third crown in as many divisions with a four-knockdown, third-round KO that dethroned WBA “regular” 168-pound champion Rocky Fielding (27-2, 15 KOs) while retaining his middleweight titles.
Alvarez is signed with DAZN’s streaming services, while Charlo’s PBC organization has deals with Showtime and FOX.
When asked by reporter Michael Woods “is anyone stopping or blocking” a fight with Alvarez, Jermall Charlo responded, “Ya’ll [reporters] gotta get on the phone with DAZN. Ya’ll gotta get on the lines with those guys.”
“Every fight is difficult, don’t get it twisted. I’m a professional fighter, I just seem to make it look easy. I’ve got a weapon that they haven’t been able to [figure out] yet,” said Charlo.
“And when they do, I’ll have more weapons. I’m 28 years old, having the time of my life, beating the s*** out of these mother******* that can’t figure it out…Sooner or later, I’ll get the calls, and I’ll get the fights that ya’ll wanna see me fight.”
