Top prospect Deron Winn awaits word on a new opponent after Bruno Silva was forced out of their middleweight fight scheduled for this Saturday at UFC Fight Night in Greenville, South Carolina.
Sources close to Silva confirmed to MMAFighting’s Guilherme Cruz that the Brazilian has been forced out of the fight, which was scheduled as his UFC debut. News of Silva’s exit from the fight was initially reported by ESPN.
Silva was signed to the UFC after competing in M-1 Global for his past two fights while racking up four wins in a row overall. Now it appears he’ll have to wait even longer for his first fight in the UFC after dropping out of the matchup against Winn.
As for Winn, he is now sitting on standby awaiting a third opponent for his first appearance inside the octagon. Winn was originally scheduled to face Markus Perez and then when he fell out of the fight he got Silva as an opponent.
The former college wrestler and protégé of UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was signed to the promotion late last year after putting together a 5-0 resume including a win over UFC veteran Tom Lawlor in his last performance.
The UFC is actively seeking a replacement to face Winn but with six days remaining until the event takes place, it’s unknown if a suitable opponent will be located in time.
UFC Fight Night from Greenville goes down on Saturday night with the main card airing on ESPN+.
