WWE has confirmed that Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman at Royal Rumble 2019, an event that will be held on January 27, 2019, at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. It is the first confirmed match of the show, although WWE has also announced the celebration of two Real Battles, one for men and one for women, as happened last year.
The bout was confirmed after Braun Strowman won his bout against Baron Corbin in WWE TLC. Although there were many doubts, due to his injury and operation on his elbow, Strowman made his final appearance with a sling and won the support of several fighters, including Finn Bálor or Kurt Angle, to subdue Corbin and take the victory for the account of three.
It will not be the first time that both fight in a PPV. Strowman does not have very good memories of his encounters against The Beast and is that many consider that the rise of The Monster Among Men was hampered with the defeat he suffered against Brock Lesnar in No Mercy 2017. On that occasion, both clashed in a one against one and Strowman lost cleanly in a match that lasted less than 10 minutes.
