Before shopping for a blue nose ring, beating up an old man at a birthday celebration, and getting a WrestleMania match against HHH, Batista was busy hitting the acting circuit as a mustachioed, kung fu fighting, drug running restaurateur in Master Z: Ip Man Legacy.
Master Z: Ip Man Legacy is an official spin-off of the Donnie Yen Ip Man film series. The synopsis sounds exactly like what you would expect if you have seen any of the previous Ip Man movies.
While keeping a low profile after his defeat from Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi gets into trouble after getting in a fight with a powerful foreigner.
Batista must play that powerful foreigner; Owen Davidson, leader of a drug syndicate who also operates a restaurant. He will have big shoes to fill after Mike Tyson’s appearance in Ip Man 3.
Let’s take a look at the Master Z: Ip Man Legacy trailer to get a few glimpses of Batista in action.
Whew, a whole lot of fighting is going on. There is only a little tease of Big Dave, but he sure did control the screen with his presence. Batista looked like a real-life Hulk compared to the stature in size of who I assume was actor Jin Zhang. That uppercut was tremendous.
In fact, Zhang was a bit scared when shooting the scene.
“And when I fought Dave, I was scared, too. He’s so much taller than me, and his fists are so huge, that even if his punches didn’t land for real, you would still feel the pain.”
Master Z: Ip Man Legacy was released in parts of Asia during December 2018 and is scheduled for a US release on April 12, 2019.
Does Batista’s involvement in Master Z: Ip Man Legacy make you more inclined to watch? Does this latest role fit in line with Batista’s desire to be an actor instead of a movie star?
