AAA Roundup: Aerostar health update, big show at L.A. Forum, more!

Share the joy

Welcome to the AAA Roundup. Let’s get caught up on some news and lucha libre action from Conquista Total.

Right off the bat, I’m going to very strongly recommend watching the trios bout of Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr., & Flamita versus Poder del Norte from Conquista Total in Hermosillo. It is totally awesome. You can watch the separate fight video (here), but it skips the dynamite beginning. It is better to watch the full show video (here) starting at 5:15.

Aerostar health update

Thankfully, there is good news to share about Aerostar’s health after his huge leap of a lighting structure resulted him in being carried out on a stretcher at Verano de Escándalo. He was taken to the hospital for observation. AAA announcer Jesus Zuñiga provided an update on Monday.

Overall, everything is fine with Aerostar. He will continue wrestling after some rest. Aerostar must be alright since he flew to Los Angeles. The spaceman teased another update at a press conference today, but there has been no statement released as of yet.

That leads us to…

AAA invading Los Angeles

AAA held a press conference to announce that they will be putting on a show at The Forum in Los Angeles on Sunday, October 13. Tickets go on sale Friday, but it looks like pre-sale is open now.

Texano, Dr. Wagner Jr., Drago, Blue Demon Jr., and Aerostar were in attendance. The presser was not streamed this time, so I can’t provide any interesting quotes. Instead, enjoy this photo of the suave luchadores.

The show in Los Angeles is part of AAA’s “Invading the U.S.A” tour. The Forum show will follow the September 15 show scheduled for Madison Square Garden in New York City as AAA visits iconic U.S. destinations.

I find that choice of tour name a bit humorous considering the current political climate. I wonder if visas will be harder to get when the rubber stamp person sees “Invading the U.S.A” on the application.

One other interesting note as pointed out by Luchablog, WWE has a house show scheduled on the same night in Anaheim. Those two sites are close enough to compete for fans’ dollars. That doesn’t seem like a smart move on AAA’s end.

In other news, Pagano and Joe Lider are scheduled for a hair vs hair bout on August 10 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa. From Pagano’s point of view, it sounds like they will still be friends in storyline and it is just business. I should also point out that the graphic on the poster is an X with light tubes in front of barbwire. The bout was set up by Pagano losing a Dome of Death match with the loser being in a future hair vs hair contest. I’m not positive, but I think the show was a local one featuring AAA talent and not a fully branded AAA show.

AAA and Elite will have another joint event on July 8 in Mexico City. It looks a little light on talent for the Elite side. The main event will be Psycho Clown and Texano against Trauma 1 and Trauma 2. Keyra and Golden Magic are also participating for Elite.

Here is a photo of the special team outfits worn by Los Mercenarios at Verano de Escándalo.

We’ll close this section with an amusing conversation between Killer Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux.

Conquista Total: Hermosillo

Conquista Total was coming at us from Hermosillo, Sonora. The show can be viewed on AAA’s YouTube channel. As a reminder about the Hermosillo show, it was taped weeks before Verano de Escándalo. That major summer event should be aired in maybe four weeks from now.

Poder del Norte vs Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr., & Flamita

The match began with a bang (starting at 5:15). Hijo del Vikingo came out from behind the curtain. Poder del Norte were waiting in the walkway. Vikingo’s partners flanked him and the tecnico trio attacked with cannonballs off the stage.

There were awesome sequences all around. One sequence had a standing moonsault, a standing shooting star press, and a springboard frog splash by the tecnicos. Another tecnico sequence included a 619, a flying tope con hilo over the corner to the outside, a handspring moonsualt to the outside, and a 450 splash.

For the finish, Vikingo and Flamita hit flying attacks to the outside. Myzteziz Jr. ran up the turnbuckles, but Mocho Cota Jr. knocked his legs out. Cota followed with a Spanish Fly to win.

After the match, Poder del Norte stomped Myzteziz and ripped his mask. La Parka came out with a chair to save his young buddies and clean house of the baddies. Parka grabbed a mic to act as the elder statesman. He said that the champs already agreed to a title match against Poder del Norte, so there is no need to act like that. Parka will show them who their daddy is. Parka then called out Los Mercenarios. He remembers how they hurt him and his son. Tonight begins their education.

Taurus, Monster Clown, & Arez vs La Parka, Drago, & Golden Magic

This trios bout (starting at 24:50) began with rudo brawling then had its fair share of high flying. My favorite part was Arez catching Drago’s springboard plancha on the way down to the mat, rolling over, and swinging Drago’s body into a single arm bridging suplex. Golden Magic then came crashing down with a 450 splash onto Arez.

For the finish, Drago hit a Mexican Destroyer on the apron to Arez. La Parka nailed a suicide dive to Monster Clown. Golden Magic followed with a corkscrew crossbody to Arez and Monster Clown on the floor. In the ring, Drago hit a whirling DDT on Taurus, but the bull kicked out. Taurus crushed Drago with a spear and a spinning sitdown slam to win.

Texano, Rey Escorpion, & Chessman vs Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown, & Pagano

This trios bout (starting at 46:00) was a typical main event match. The rudos dominated at the start. In this case, chairs and a bull rope were used. Wagner and the tecnicos eventually ran wild. Then the bout went back and forth. Highlights include a triple suicide dive by the tecnicos and a fist fight between Rey Escorpion and Psycho Clown.

The finish began with a cannonball off the apron by Dr. Wagner Jr. to Texano. Psycho Clown executed a tope con hilo onto Rey Escorpion. Pagano and Chessman fought in the ring with a chair. Pagano went high risk and missed a moonsault while holding a chair. Chessman whacked Pagano’s legs with the chair. Chessman covered Pagano for the win.

After the match, the rudos beat up Wagner. Psycho made the save. Chessman exited the ring and beat on Pagano some more. Taurus snuck in the ring to spear Psycho. La Parka, Hijo del Vikingo, and Myzteziz Jr. ran out from the back to fight Los Mercenarios. Poder del Norte ran in from the crowd to fight Vikingo and Myzteziz. All the rudos stood tall to close the show. They took masks and wouldn’t quit the destruction on the tecnicos.

This was a solid show for Conquista Total. The opening trios bout was fire. The middle match had its moments. I was a little surprised that Taurus pinned Drago. Could a feud for Drago’s Latin America Championship be on the horizon? The formulaic routine for the main event can get tiresome, but the finish was bonkers with all the luchadores coming out mixing in various feuds.

What did you think about the trios bout between Poder del Norte and Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr., & Flamita? Would you be excited for a Taurus vs Drago feud?
